Golf Rehabilitation
Physical Therapist
Mitch Steffensmeier,
DPT
Mitch is an avid golfer and, since he started working as a physical therapist, has had many patients with various injuries who have been limited in golf due to pain, weakness or limited range of motion. In 2024, he completed his Titleist Performance Institute certification, which helps identify range of motion and strength deficits in golfers. His goal is to help golfers improve their pain, range of motion, and strength so they can fully participate in golf and improve their performance.
Golf may seem like a leisurely activity, but, like all athletes, golfers can be prone to sports-related injuries.
You may benefit from golf rehabilitation if you’re experiencing any or all of the following:
- Pain while golfing
- Discomfort when bending over
- Difficulty swinging
- An injury that’s limiting your ability to golf
Additionally, golf rehabilitation may also be helpful for golfers who have mobility restrictions – even if they’re not currently painful – to help prevent injuries.
Evaluation
During the evaluation, Mitch will identify any differences in range of motion and weakness, as well as other aspects that can directly affect the golf swing and cause pain while you’re playing. He’ll then use his findings to reduce your pain level to allow you to to swing; work to improve your mobility and increase strength; and, ultimately, help you be more mobile to golf more efficiently.
Treatment
Golf rehabilitation therapy includes a combination of exercises and manual treatments to improve strength, endurance and mobility. Patients will notice reduced pain, better mobility and potentially enhanced skills.
A referral from a primary care provider is required.
