Hunter & Ariana's Story
Thank you to Hunter and Ariana, who allowed us to share the kind note they sent us about their recent stay in the Birthplace (as well as this adorable photo of their newborn, Micah)!
"I just wanted to send you this email to express my gratitude for the nursing staff you have in the Birthplace. I came in last Saturday night for an induction not knowing what to expect. This is my first pregnancy and everything has been upside down because of COVID. When I arrived, I was met by a staff that was beyond wonderful. They made jokes with me, laughed with me and answered every off-the-wall question I had.
"During my 4-day stay, I had many nurses who were all absolutely amazing, but there are 3 specifically that I want to mention. The first is Kalista. Kalista was the first nurse I had the night I came in. She met all of my questions with truth and compassion. She was genuine, kind and downright hilarious. She put all of my first-night jitters to rest and made me feel safe.
"The second nurse I want to mention is Kelsey. Kelsey holds a very special place in my heart. We spent 12 hours together and those 12 hours I will never forget. She was with me for the majority of my labor and for the birth of my son. She told me stories about when she had her daughters, made me comfortable and, again, answered every single question I had, which, trust me, was a lot. She explained to me what was happening to my body and made my husband and I feel as much in control of what was happening as possible. Through my pregnancy, I haven’t had much control at all. COVID took away some of the most memorable moments of pregnancy and I feel like the last few hours I was pregnant, I got a few of those moments back. Kelsey was by my side when my son's heart rate started dropping and gave me the courage I needed to be able to bring him into this world. She encouraged me, pushed me and gave me strength. For that I am forever grateful.
"The last nurse I want to mention is Gracie. Gracie is, from what understand, newer to your staff. She was with us for the 2 days after my son was born. She was sweet, gentle and very kind. She made sure we were comfortable and had the support we needed. She offered to take photos of us so we could look back and have memories of those moments, she sat and chatted with us, she made us feel so loved. It was hard not being able to have our family come visit us in the hospital like we planned before the world turned to chaos, but your staff served us like family for the 4 days we were there.
"The Mercy Birthplace was so much more than a hospital room. We shared one of the most special moments of our lives within those four walls and I can truly say I’m so happy we spent it with your staff. Thank you all for what you do. You are all truly amazing."
