Mercy’s new freestanding Marion ER to hold ribbon-cutting and open house
Facility will officially open for patient care on Dec. 2
Mercy Cedar Rapids will celebrate the area’s newest and largest freestanding ER with a ribbon-cutting, as well as a community open house, in mid-November. The new facility is conveniently located in the heart of Marion at 999 35th St., Marion, IA.
The ribbon cutting will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15. This event is by invitation.
The community open house will take place the next day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16. Visitors can enjoy refreshments and tour the area’s largest freestanding ER, situated right next to MercyCare Marion Family Practice and Urgent Care.
Then, beginning Dec. 2, the Marion ER will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with:
- 12 exam and 2 trauma rooms
- Blood-draw and other lab services
- Imaging services, including X-ray, ultrasound and CT scans
- Permanent helicopter pad for flight needs
- The area’s leading ER services and trauma level care at the speed of Mercy
- Co-located next to Mercy family practice and urgent care clinics for a variety of medical needs
This will be the second off-site, hospital-based extension of Mercy’s Emergency Department. Mercy’s Hiawatha emergency location opened in 2020 and was the first ER in Iowa available outside of a hospital-based setting. Public and patient response to the Hiawatha location has been extremely positive.
Like the Mercy Hiawatha ER, patients at the Marion location that require additional hospital intervention will be transferred free of charge to Mercy’s downtown location based on well-developed protocols and in partnership with local ambulance services.
