Mercy Cedar Rapids to rededicate Watts Medical Library following renovations
Space now incorporates new Caregivers Center at Mercy
Mercy Medical Center is pleased to share that it will rededicate its newly renovated Watts Medical Library, which now incorporates the new Caregivers Center at Mercy.
A rededication ceremony (by invitation) will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 8. Following that brief ceremony, the public is invited to tour the new space and enjoy light refreshments from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Within the Watts Library, the new Caregivers Center at Mercy has been thoughtfully designed to meet the immediate needs of both informal and formal caregivers while they are on-site. To Mercy’s knowledge, this is the first hospital-based caregivers center in the Midwest. It will include support and resources for caregivers through:
- One-on-one visits
- Assistance with healthcare system navigation
- Referrals to community resources
- Caregiver wellness resources and educational programming
- Stay In Touch program
The new space reflects Mercy’s commitment to patients and their families while honoring the legacy of Dr. Campbell Watts and his wife, Doris. Dr. Watts was a long-time physician in the Cedar Rapids community. The Wattses helped establish the library in 2003. It has served as a hub of knowledge and resources for staff, patients and community members. The Watts Library became a satellite location of the Cedar Rapids Public Library in 2014.
