Mercy installs new sculpture outside Hall-Perrine Cancer Center
Presentation and blessing set for Mon., Sept. 26
Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids is celebrating the installation of a new piece of artwork that will beautify the front lawn of Hall-Perrine Cancer Center for years to come. A presentation and blessing ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Mon, Sept. 26.
The sculpture, titled “Arc of Peace,” depicts a woman reaching upward with extended arms as she holds an arch of origami cranes. The origami crane is a symbol of hope, love and well-being. The “Arc of Peace” has been intentionally installed so that it faces patients while they are receiving cancer infusion treatments.
The installation of the artwork brings to fruition a vision set forth by Mary Quass. Quass is a member of the Mercy Medical Center Board of Trustees and a 23-year breast cancer survivor. She joined three generous donors to pay for the sculpture, which was created by artist Lorri Acott. Acott is known for her large public art installations. Three of Acott’s other sculptures are located in Mason City, IA; Phoenix; and Greeley, CO.
