Mercy introduces bariatric surgery for weight loss
Mercy Medical Center is pleased to now offer its patients bariatric surgery for weight loss – the only such program in Cedar Rapids. Mercy’s new Bariatric Surgery Clinic provides surgical weight loss options to help with weight control and healthy living for lifelong success. This comprehensive program is under the direction of Sajida Ahad, MD, FACS – one of a few surgeons in the U.S. specializing both in obesity medicine and bariatric surgery.
“Mercy’s bariatric surgery program was developed to meet patient needs and help them reach their goal of living a healthy, enjoyable life. Weight loss through bariatric surgery is much more than a surgical procedure — it is a lifelong journey of healthy choices,” said Dr. Ahad. “Our team provides compassionate, competent care and ongoing support to optimize outcomes in surgical weight loss.”
Mercy’s comprehensive program includes a team that consists of the surgeon, nurse, program coordinator, dietitian and psychologist. The team will assist patients through different stages of the weight loss journey, including surgery, and partner as coaches.
To find out more about weight loss surgery and the general requirements for candidates, Mercy is offering free, monthly educational seminars. Dr. Ahad will be there to answer questions and help participants determine if bariatric surgery is right for them.
