Growth prompts pediatric inpatient expansion at Mercy Medical Center
Public open house set for Monday, April 6
Mercy Medical Center is expanding and relocating its Pediatric Inpatient Center to accommodate a growing number of young patients. In fact, Mercy has welcomed nearly 5,000 new pediatric patients since the opening of the new Mercy Pediatric Clinic last year.
As a result of the increase in patients, Mercy is relocating its Pediatric Inpatient Center from its current space on the hospital’s third floor, to the eighth floor of the patient tower. The new location offers more space and nearly twice as many private, patient rooms for pediatric patients. Renovations are expected to be completed by April. A public open house will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 6 (details below).
“We are pleased to be able to serve so many families in our community,” said Mercy Pediatric Hospitalist James Matsuda, MD, PhD. “The additional capacity for our Pediatric Inpatient Center will be especially helpful in supporting the needs of our hospitalized children, as well as those who regularly receive more complex outpatient treatments.”
New Med Sleds on display
The April 6 open house will include a display of Mercy’s new pediatric emergency evacuation devices. The Med Sled® Evacuation Sleds will enable hospital employees to safely transport non-ambulatory patients out of a building or down a stairwell in the case of an emergency. Mercy’s Med Sleds are specifically designed for pediatric, infant and NICU patients. Funding for the purchase of this equipment was made available through grant money allocated to the Hospital Preparedness Program.
