Mercy’s 8th & 8th Medical Office Building awarded LEED Certification

Mercy Medical Center is pleased to announce its 8th & 8th Medical Office Building, located at 788 8th Ave. SE, has been awarded LEED® Silver Certification established by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system. The certification is awarded to facilities that demonstrate excellence in building design that creates significant and measurable energy savings through sustainable design practices.

The 8th & 8th Medical Office Building is the second facility on the Mercy campus to attain LEED certification for energy-saving technologies and techniques. The Hall-Perrine Cancer Center was LEED-certified in 2009.  

The 8th & 8th Medical Office Building is a four-story, 72,000-square-foot facility that includes medical office space for physician practices, offices and conference space for Mercy, and flexible space to accommodate other medical uses. Current tenants include: Mercy Cardiology Clinic; Mercy General Surgery Clinic; Mercy Employee Health Center; Mercy Pulmonology Clinic, Cedar Rapids OB-Gyn Specialists, P.C.; and Innovative Aesthetics.  

The building, which opened in 2009, was the first medical facility in Cedar Rapids built with LEED principles. Builders used energy-efficient materials and followed environmental principles for efficiency in the construction process. Those initiatives are aimed at water and energy conservation and preserving indoor environmental air quality.
