Longtime Cedar Rapids medical oncologist set to retire
After 34 years of dedicated service to the community, Martin Wiesenfeld, M.D., FACP, is retiring from medical oncology practice. Dr. Wiesenfeld began private practice with Internists PC after completing his fellowship in Medical Hematology- Oncology at the University of Iowa in 1979. In 1983, he joined with Dr. Dean Gesme to form Oncology Associates of Cedar Rapids where they specialized in blood disorders and cancer treatments.
Dr. Wiesenfeld helped to obtain the Community Clinical Oncology Program grant. He served as Principal Investigator of the Cedar Rapids Oncology Project from 1985 to 2011. In 2012, he led the move of Oncology Associates into the new Hall-Perrine Cancer Center where he currently serves as medical director.
The public is invited to attend Dr. Wiesenfeld’s retirement celebration at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center lobby Fri., May 31, from 3 to 5 p.m.
