Commit to getting healthier at Meet Me at the Market
Mercy Medical Center, in collaboration with other area partners, invites the public to participate in a free, new program offered at NewBo City Market, 1100 3rd St SE. Meet Me at the Market is an informal, family-oriented walking, biking and running program that kicks off Thursday, May 2 and continues every Thursday through October 31, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., rain or shine.
Participants are encouraged to meet friends and family at the Market and then walk, bike or run on one of the suggested routes in and around downtown Cedar Rapids.
Already, more than 535 walkers, bicyclists and runners have registered on the website and more are welcome.
“Meet Me at the Market is a great way for people to exercise and enjoy the outdoors while they familiarize themselves with some of the great sights around Cedar Rapids,” said Lynn Dennis, program coordinator at Mercy Medical Center. “Mercy is excited to be part of this new program taking place in one of the most vibrant areas of our city.”
Participants can register once for the entire season, and then just check in for a hand stamp between 5 and 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at NewBo City Market. The hand stamp is good for discounts at supporting NewBo, Czech and downtown businesses. Plus, enjoy Music at the Market every Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m.
The Blue Zones Project™ Active Living Strategy Team partnered with the NewBo City Market to initiate Meet Me at the Market. In addition to Mercy Medical Center, other key sponsors and partners include University of Iowa Community Credit Union, St. Luke's Hospital, Bankers Trust, Guaranty Bank, the City of Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation and Bicycle Advisory Committee, Linn County Trails Association, Linn County Public Health, Cedar Rapids Convention and Visitors' Bureau, Running Wild, Cedar Valley Running Association, and is supported by the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
Located at 1100 3rd St. S.E. in Cedar Rapids, IA, the NewBo City Market is a dynamic public space where local entrepreneurs create an environment of fresh, wonderful food, products and experiences. Reclaimed from a once flood-ravaged industrial site in the heart of the New Bohemia district, it is a public market serving "Fresh Fun."
