Can you believe the flu season is already sneaking up on us? October through April is when the flu tends to hit it's stride, so here are a few tips that can help you stop the flu this season:
-
Wash your hands.
Wash your hands often – especially after sneezing, coughing or using a tissue. Remember to wipe down objects that are touched by many hands, such as computer keyboards, phones, door handles, etc. using antibacterial wipes.
-
Wear a mask.
Masks help reduce the spread of droplets that are expelled into the air during everyday activities such as speaking, singing or yelling/cheering, and especially during more forceful exhalations, like sneezing or coughing.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
You're eyes, nose and mouth are the 3 places that the flu virus can enter your body. Keeping your hands away from them will help your immune system avoid catching the virus from things you touch.
-
Get your flu shot.
It takes about two weeks for the antibodies in the flu vaccine to develop, so the sooner you can get the shot, the better. We must ALL commit to preventing the spread of the flu, and the flu vaccination is essential in helping to reduce the overall effect of respiratory illnesses on ourselves and others. As such, annual flu vaccination is recommended for everyone six months of age and older.
-
Take care of yourself and others.
If you follow these rules and still end up sick, be kind and protect others by staying home. Stay hydrated, get lots of rest and eat a well-balanced diet to boost your immune system.
