$125,000 for 125 Years!

The Mercy Foundation is marking the kickoff of the hospital’s year-long 125th anniversary celebration by creating a matching gift challenge for Giving Tuesday. Your Giving Tuesday donation to the Mercy Foundation unites you with a global generosity movement. Giving Tuesday takes place each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Your gift supports critical health needs and provides for the highest-quality, most advanced care possible. Your gift also carries on the compassionate and healing work that was initiated by the Sisters of Mercy nearly 125 years ago.

All donations received through Giving Tuesday will be matched dollar for dollar by Fairfax State Savings Bank and members of the Mercy Medical Center Foundation Board, up to $62,500 total. Patrick Slater, President and CEO of Fairfax State Savings Bank, is also a member of the Mercy Medical Center Foundation Board. Several members of the Foundation Board have joined forces with Patrick and the bank to match community donations to the Foundation increasing this year’s challenge gift from $25,000 to $62,500. This means your gift has the potential to help raise $125,000 or more. 

A Legacy Continued

Patrick Slater, President and CEO of Fairfax State Savings Bank, was moved to initiate this challenge for Giving Tuesday in 2021 after his recovery from quadruple bypass heart surgery at Mercy. View Patrick’s story here.

“We were so excited about the good results we saw from Giving Tuesday last year at Mercy that we were inspired to participate again this year,” said Patrick Slater.

Patrick, his family and Fairfax State Savings Bank have a long-standing legacy of supporting Mercy, including financial gifts to Hospice of Mercy, HallMar Village, the Family Caregivers Center, the Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer, cardiac services and more. It’s a tradition that started with Patrick’s late father, David Neuhaus, who served on the Mercy Medical Center Board of Trustees 1983-2012.

Laurie Neuhaus, Executive Vice President of Fairfax State Savings Bank, as a breast cancer survivor, and Patrick, having undergone heart surgery, both experienced The Mercy Touch® in life-changing ways. The Giving Tuesday matching gift challenge is aimed at encouraging members of the community to join with the bank in supporting Mercy and its exceptional patient care.
