How to Safely Check-In with Your Family, Friends and Coworkers During COVID-19
If someone you know tests positive for COVID-19, it can be difficult to know how to safely stay in contact with them. When in quarantine, they’re self-isolating which can be detrimental to their mental health. Below are a few ways you can still let your family, friends and coworkers know you’re thinking of them.
- Call them daily. To give them something to look forward to, call them to see how they’re doing and ask if there’s anything you can pick up for them. Hearing another person’s voice can provide a sense of familiarity they are needing.
- Set up a video call. Whether it’s Zoom or another type of video call, you can visually see how the person is doing. Even though it’s not in person, it can feel like it when the camera is on.
- Write letters. Taking the time to write handwritten letters can be meaningful to the person receiving them. Plus, they can keep the letters. If they choose to reply, that will give them something to do while recovering and help them feel like they are still in contact with the outside world.
- Chat through a window. If you live close by, see your family member, friend or coworker through their residence’s window. This way, they can have real human interaction without literally making contact. By visiting in person, you can lift their spirits.
