The Benefits of Spring Cleaning for Mental Health
Spring cleaning is something that helps your surroundings stay tidy, but also your mental health. Below are a few examples of how spring cleaning can improve your mental health.
If you have too much clutter, your mind’s ability to retain information decreases. With too much disorganization around you, your brain only sees that versus being able to focus on other tasks. By organizing and cleaning your space, your brain is able to focus on other tasks that you need to complete.
When your kitchen is full of dirty dishes, isn’t organized or you have no space to prepare meals, your eating habits will defer to packaged foods or eating out. Either option can lead to your body not receiving the nutrients it needs by eating processed or greasy food. By organizing your kitchen cupboards and refrigerator, you can feel more organized and have room for healthier food options that your brain and body need.
Being disorganized can mean you’re depressed because you don’t have the will power or need to feel like cleaning. By pushing through those feelings, you can organize your space and feel motivated to continue to do so. You may begin to feel less stressed or constricted by the clutter which can make you feel happier.
You may have wanted to organize your home, storage space, garage or even your car for a while. After cleaning and organizing the area that needs it, you will feel fulfilled by doing something you’ve wanted to accomplish. Plus, you can think of how to maintain that cleanliness so you can always feel a sense of fulfillment and order.
