The Benefits of Emotional Intelligence When Solving Conflict
Having feelings is normal but how you express your feelings can alter your daily life – personally and professionally. Emotional intelligence, commonly referred to as EQ, is being able to understand and control your feelings, so you can have positive interactions in your everyday life. When a problem occurs, it’s often your emotional intelligence that will prove how you resolve the issue. Below are a few tips on how to become emotionally intelligent to successfully solve minor or major-life problems.
1. Sleep
Before you make any decisions, it’s important to have enough rest so your emotions are stable. Without much sleep, your emotions can change quickly, which makes it hard to make rational decisions and have calm conversations.
2. Maintain Sustenance
Being hungry is another factor that can affect your mood. Eating enough and eating healthy will provide nourishment to your body, which encourages a better mood. Being hungry or overly full can make you agitated and tired which is not how you want to feel when resolving issues in your life.
3. Invite a Neutral Participant
Whether there’s a problem at work or home, find a neutral participant to help facilitate the conversation between your coworker or family member. Having an additional person can be helpful to help ease emotions, listen to both sides and help resolve the issue.
4. Acknowledge Mistakes
No one is perfect and you may have made mistakes that have led to this problem. It’s easy to point your finger at someone else, but by acknowledging your faults is proof of emotional intelligence.
5. Understand the Resolution
Having a quick resolution doesn’t always lead to quick successes. By taking the time to identify what led to the problem and understanding how to prevent it, can help your emotions become calm to solve the bigger issue.
