How to Leave Work at Work
When your workday is over, it can be difficult to try to disengage from work when you get home. This is especially true now that many people are working entirely from home. Whether you had a bad day or you’re constantly thinking about work projects, it’s time to let go of what happened at work. By following the tips below, you can begin enjoying your home life.
Write a To-Do List
As you begin your day, write a list of projects you could reasonably finish within a day. Instead of feeling stressed, you can feel prepared by writing a list of projects; it can help you focus on urgent matters and not think about your entire workload. When crossing off the projects as you finish them, it will make you feel accomplished.
Set Deadlines
When setting deadlines for yourself, you create a timeline to follow that will help you finish projects on time if not earlier. Also, if you have flexibility in your job, this helps you set aside the time you will think about work and outlines a firm stopping point.
Communicate with Your Boss & Coworkers
If your workload is troubling you, communicate your worries with your boss or coworkers that are working with you on the projects. Your boss can help you prioritize projects and your coworkers may have the flexibility to help you finish the projects that are taking up too much of your time.
Reflect on Your Day
As you look at your to-do list, you can see items that were crossed off and feel accomplished about your hard work that day. Give yourself time to feel relieved and proud about the work you finished and transition out of your “work” state of mind as your workday is coming to a close. It’s important to let go of minor frustrations you endured during your workday, so you can enjoy your after-hours life.
