MercyCare Accountable Care Organization (ACO)
MercyCare ACO Mission Statement
The MercyCare Accountable Care Organization supports an environment of continuous improvement with the goal of maximizing quality, improving health of populations and reducing costs of care.
Newly formed, the MercyCare Accountable Care Organization was created for the purpose of increasing quality, lowering costs and creating a healthier community, which aligns with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Triple Aim. We are developing and implementing evidence-based care and best practices for keeping populations healthy.
Providers support and engage in quality assurance and improvement programs that will improve patient health and reduce medical costs. Our analysis of internal and payer data has led us to focus on quality improvement efforts in the following areas:
- Re-admissions to the hospital
- Timely access to a provider for follow-up care following a hospitalization
- Unnecessary visits to the emergency room
- Engaging members to go to the doctor for regular annual visits when appropriate
- Management of patients with hypertension and controlling blood pressure
- Diabetes care and self-management
ACO History
Mercy has previously been part of the University of Iowa Health Alliance ACO that formed in 2013.
